2010 Winter Highpoint
Meet
The biggest highlight of last
week was CSST hosting the 2010 Winter Highpoint meet January
8th,
9th and
10th. A huge thank you goes out to all of
our parents, coaches and athletes who helped make this meet such a
tremendous success! A
special thanks to our head official, Mike McBride and the rest of
the officiating staff, the computer table gurus, our dedicated
timers and our wonderful hospitality volunteers….were there
actually strawberries and chocolate served? How divine! We couldn’t have done it
without all of you.
Below are some highlights from each of our Silver, Gold and Senior
teams.
The Silver
Team
Doherty
There were 7 swimmers from the
Doherty, many swimming best times and new events for the first
time. Cameron Hughes dropped 8 seconds
in his 50 butterfly and another 5 seconds in his 50 breaststroke.
Jackson Blum and
Matt Johnson both tried
new events at the meet including the 100 IM. Way to go guys!
Amber Murtha and
Jenna Petrohoy both
swam best times in the 50 breaststroke dropping 4 and 5 seconds,
respectively. Makayla
McWilliams completed the 50 breaststroke and 50 fly in best
times as well. Paetyn
Relich dropped 3 seconds in her 50 free. Overall, this
meet was a lot of fun and it showed how much these young athletes
have improved since their last meet. We will continue to work
hard during practice as we start to increase the yardage and
continue to focus on technique. ~Coach

Coronado & Palmer
(CC)
The silver groups at both Coronado and
Palmer (now CC) were represented very well. Nicole Beaulieu, Sarah Cooley, Lydia
Draper, Maddi Draper, Eric Turcheck, Carli Kassner, Mia
Shaeffer represented Coronado. Tyler Hurtado and Reece MacRenato represented
Palmer. Nicole Beaulieu (9) swam her
first meet without having a parent present. She was very
responsible in talking to the coach before and after her races and
getting to the blocks on time. She was also very brave in
trying a backstroke flip turn in the 50 back. Sarah Cooley (13) swam the 200
free and the 100 back for the very first time. Sarah also finished a very
impressive 50 free even after losing her goggles. Lydia Draper (10) swam a very
impressive meet dropping time in the 50 breast, 50 back, and 50
free. She also swam the 100 breast, 50 fly, and 100 IM for
the first time! Maddi
Draper (13) also had a couple of best times including a three
second drop in the 50 free. Both Maddi and Lydia will now be
joining Coach Kent on the Gold Team. Nice job ladies! Eric Turcheck (12) is almost at
that stage as well. He has been working very hard on his flip
turns and is seeing a lot of improvement. Eric’s 50
breast and 100 free were both best times. He also swam the 50
fly for the first time. Carli Kassner (8) swam
in her first swim meet ever and did not get disqualified in any
event! She swam a 25 of each stroke. Mia Shaeffer (9) did very well
in the 50 breast and the 50 free achieving personal best times in
both events. She also swam the 50 fly for the first
time. The youngsters at Palmer did very well. Tyler Hurtado (12) dropped
time in both the 50 free and the 50 back! Reece MacRenato (8) swam in his
first swim meet ever and competed very well! Reece is a true
competitor and he likes to race. ~ Coaches Wendy, Katie

The Gold Team
Congratulations to the swimmers on the
CSST Gold Team.
Attendance at practice is increasing, stroke and turns are
improving, practice habits are much better and you are all working
very hard. We are
proud of you.
It’s exciting to see this hard work starting to pay off at
meets. This past
weekend there were 25 swimmers representing the Gold program and
all had some best times with many swimming 6 to 8 personal records
(PR’s). Several
of our swimmers qualified for Silver State and some made their cuts
to the Colorado State JO’s. Way to go Gold. The coaches would like to
highlight a few of our outstanding performances. Catriona Clarke, her sister Allana Clarke and Kat Mills each had 7 best
times. Alan Kim, Molly Freudenberg, and
Caroline Stieglitz each
had over 4 best times.
Special congratulations goes out to Westin Stieglitz for turning in
9 best times and winning the over-all 9&10 boys high
point. Also
congratulations to Gian-Luc
Jordan for winning all 4 events he entered. We wish him good luck at the
All-Star meet next weekend.
Keep up the good work Gold
Team. Hard work and
dedication does pay off. ~ Coaches Kent &
Alicia
The Senior Team
The survivors of CSST’s Christmas training showed
what a daily dose of 12,000 yards can do for your swimming. Tired but strong bodies
combined with a dose of confidence to start the second half of the
season is just what we were looking for at our meet in our
house. By the way, if
you swam every workout from the beginning of Christmas training
through Thursday, January 7th you swam over 90,000 yards or 52
miles…almost a drive to Denver. WE ARE IN GREAT
SHAPE!!!!!
A few of the highlights from the 2010 CSST Winter
Highpoint: winning the
400 free and 400 medley relays for men and women against some very
good competition, Jennifer
Campbell getting two best times in the 1,000 free…her
500 split was her best ever and her 1,000, Katie McBride’s 1000 free,
Brennan Mays swimming a
10:54 in the 1000 free, Jackie Mays winning both the 100
and 200 free, Michael
Loyd swimming 9 events and winning 9 events, Jonathan Littles going 50.2 in
the 100 free, Bryan
Rossmanith having a career day with several best times, Billy Wells dropping 7
seconds in the 200 free, YiSul Richter’s best times
in the in the 100 free and 100 back, Elena Welding’s 50 free,
Eric Albers breaking a
minute in the 100 back,
Hunter Doerr’s 58.5 100 free, Andy Essells dropping 7 seconds
in the 1000 free, Ben
Essells best time in the 50 free, Eric Hale swimming 7 events and
having huge drops in
every event, Ben
Martinez improving in three events, Keegan Miller getting some nice
drops, and Sarah James
going 2:08.3 in the 200 back, just missing the Colorado College
pool record by .2 sec.
Great job to all of you but don’t forget…we have many
more miles to swim before we reach our destination. ~ Coach
Mike
